"Please make sure you bring your parents with you on your graduation day Ms. Manito”, said one of the registrar’s staffs. For sure I cannot bring them on this special day so why not bring myself to them instead.
It took me a lot of courage to have this picture earlier. Di lang dahil mag-isa lang ako pumunta ng sementeryo, kundi umakyat pa ako mag-isa sa 5th storey ng puntod ng nanay ko para lang dito Ibabalik din agad ang toga right after the ceremony so I’ve made one good decision.
Alam ko maiinggit lang ako mamaya for I know most of my fellow graduates will be taking selfies with their parents later. So I chose to take my first photo with my mom with the toga on at her tomb.
Mommy and Daddy, heto na yung pangarap niyo po sa sarili niyo na naudlot. Graduate na po ako after 7 years in college at may bonus pa - Cum laude po ako. It was your frustration to finish high school and college, and it became my inspiration to fulfill your dream. The journey wasn’t that easy without you by my side, but God promised it will be all worth it in the end.
Natupad ko po yung pangako ko sa inyo na hindi po nung Dean’s Listers Recognition Day ang last na aakyat kayo sa stage. Ngayon naman sa aking graduation day, mas pinili kong ako ang umakyat sa tabi niyo. Sayang nga lang wala na kayo ni Daddy on this very special day. But I know the two of you will have the best seat later, watching over me straight from the heavens. I know somehow both of you are proud of me.
I can’t thank my parents enough for the kind of life I was able to experience. I realized in life you can’t have everything you wanted, but it doesn’t mean you can’t have a good life. Value every moment with your parents while they are still alive, di natin alam kelan sila babawiin sa atin ng Diyos. Mom and Dad, this one is for you!
Thank You Lord for giving me the best parents in the world. Happy graduation!
